Influences

The project draws on a range of influences, but is geared towards reggae/R&B/hiphop and electronica.

MF recently spent time in Jamaica, vising Bob Marley’s childhood home and later Kingston and the legendary Tuff Gong studios, run by Bob Marley’s wife Rita. “Sitting in the main room of that iconic studio gave me huge inspiration for moving the project forward”.

MF also visited New York exploring some of the Bronx’s iconic hiphop venues. This was something he couldn’t do in the 80’s on his first visit to the region given the crime at that time.

MF performs drumming duties in addition to executive production, arrangement and some mixing. Session musicians help out depending on the unique requirements of the project.

Their latest single, Band of Gold, is out April 19. That single also had input from Wellington engineer and roots reggae legend, Lee “scratch” Prebble in his iconic studio “The surgery”.
